The Complete Performer Winter Intensive

This program challenges and focuses singers to start the New Year with reinvigorated repertoire, confidence, and a professional edge. Working with a world-class faculty, singers are engaged musically, dramatically, physically, and mentally eight hours a day. The program culminates with two public performances of a staged new work. It is an extraordinary experience that lasts a lifetime.

Who Should Apply?

Attendees are typically a mix of early and experienced performers including exceptional students and career professionals. Every singer is challenged at their own level depending on their individual goals. APPLY NOW


Classes

All singers will be actively involved in a wide range of classes and activities designed to holistically develop the complete performer. These include: Coachings, Performance Techniques, Acting, Improvisation, Alexander Technique, Yoga, Physical Theatre, Conducting, and Visualization. Business and Career classes focus on entrepreneurial skills and career development. The program concludes with an original two-act Pastiche Opera about a current social issue.

Our world-class faculty consists of professionals and teachers who have expertise in the operatic traditions and the evolving demands of the 21st century artist. Throughout the programs, they work together to ensure that participants receive well-rounded training that is reinforced program-wide.

Schedule

OperaWorks programs are intense and challenging, and downtime is built in to allow for practice, reflection, and building a supportive community.

January 1: arrival and check-in to hotel
January 2-6: classes 9:30am – 6:00pm
January 8-12: classes 9:30am – 6:00pm
January 13: two performances of Pastiche Opera
January 14: check-out and departure


Auditions

Live or Recorded Audition Requirements: 3 contrasting arias and/or art songs in at least 2 languages. A pianist will be provided at live auditions at no charge.

Housing

Attendees will be housed at the luxury Staybridge Suites Hotel near the campus of California State University-Northridge. Each 2-bedroom, 2-bath suite features: a fully equipped kitchen, three flat screen TVs, wired and wireless internet, plus complimentary full American breakfasts and dinner (3x per week), heated pool and jacuzzi, workout room, complimentary self-service laundry, outdoor courtyard with gas BBQs.

Housing fee reflects the double occupancy rate is for two people in a 2-bedroom suite. 1-bedroom suites are available at a higher rate.

Attending OperaWorks is an investment in your career and we take this very seriously. Our nearly 2:1 singer-faculty ratio gives you unparalleled individualized attention and empowering performance experiences.

Tuition: $2,375
Hotel Suite: $1,170* (double suite, per person)
*Housing fee based on a shared 2-bdm, 2-bath suite including daily breakfasts and 3 dinners/week. 1-bdm suites for an additional fee.


Scholarships

OperaWorks offers a limited number of small scholarships based on need. Singers will also receive OperaWorks’ personalized fundraising packet as part of their career skill development.


Payment Schedule

  • $600 non-refundable deposit due upon acceptance into the program
  • Remaining tuition and housing costs are split into monthly payments
  • No refunds after December 1, 2017
