The OperaWorks Creative Entrepreneurship Program addresses the needs of performers looking to develop creative business ventures in tandem with a performance career, or enter arts leadership entirely.

About the Program

Entrepreneurs in this program will develop a unique business idea under the guidance of our expert faculty. Participants will identify and explore personal strengths as the basis for building business skills. Class offerings will include an array of arts administration subjects including an exploration of the paths to various leadership roles, core business skills, production skills, and career coaching. Each participant will receive one-on-one mentorship from our Executive Director, and have an opportunity to experience the inner workings of running a non-profit in addition to classroom learning.

4 to 6 participants will attend this residency concurrent with OperaWorks’ Advanced Artist Program, allowing for overlapping curriculum and relationship building between programs, along with an immediate opportunity for practical application of presented skills. The curriculum will be presented in a combination of lectures, panels, breakout sessions, and one-on-one coaching.

This program will be led by Executive Director Aaron Sanko in conjunction with our world-class faculty, consisting of professionals and teachers who have expertise in the operatic traditions and the evolving demands of the 21st century artist.


OperaWorks programs are intense and challenging, and downtime is built in for practice, reflection, and building a supportive community. Classes run Mondays – Fridays, 9:30a – 6:00p. Performances occur on the final weekend of each program.

Participants are housed in spacious 2-bedroom apartments on the campus of California State University, Northridge. Each apartment features a living room, dining area, kitchen, private balcony, and swimming pool. Meals are not included.
